Some of you may already know that I’m going to be writing a novella for Salt Publishing’s new horror imprint, REMAINS – editor Johnny Mains is at the helm, and I’ll be in esteemed company, with Lynda E Rucker, John Llewellyn Probert, Nathan Balingrud, Thana Niveau and others to be confirmed. At the moment it’s a little like I’ve taken a trip into some bizarro world – here I am, with two (soon to be three!) short story publications under my belt, being asked to write a novella. It’s a huge honour and a challenge I intend to undertake in the appropriate fashion – with plenty of flailing and loud noises.
It’s interesting, to me at least, that I’ve ended up becoming known (as it were) for writing horror/dark fiction – when I set out, I had this sort of cool, darkly romantic vision of myself as filling some kind of cyberpunk/urban sci-fi niche (not being much of a tech-head pretty much put paid to that one, though.) This isn’t to say I’m displeased – as someone who grew up devouring Stephen King and James Herbert books at what was probably a highly inappropriate age (I read Cujo aged ten) I’m hugely excited to be dipping my toe in this genre.
Speaking of horror – ‘Best British Horror 2014’ was recently reviewed over at Ginger Nuts Of Horror and there are some very kind words indeed about When Charlie Sleeps.
Anyway, off I toddle to work out what the hell I’m going to write about!
Yay – so glad you’re blogging again! And so excited about your latest venture 🙂 Sephie
whoops, missed the comment – cheers 😀
